Description
Michel David-Weill was raised in Paris, and educated at the Lycée Français in New York before graduating from both the École Polytechnique and Institut d’Études Politiques back in Paris. He continued his transatlantic life by following his family's interest in the banking firm Lazard. For almost 40 years he worked as the head of either the New York or Paris office, shifting easily from country to country.
Sometimes called “the last emperor of Wall Street” by his peers, David-Weill was old-fashioned in business and certainly one of the last bankers to care more about long-term structure than short-term profit strategies. He was known not only for his achievements in finance but also for his culture, in particular his passion for French and Roman art, his elegance, and his style.
Here are the confidences of a man of position and responsibility, his experiences and thoughts; a man who always managed to remember, in spite of his fondness for adrenaline rushes and taking high risks, that what was most important to him was his wife, his four beloved daughters, and an unlimited desire for happiness.
