In the simple words and glorious illustrations of This Little Pea, Eric Battut celebrates the joy of being different and setting your imagination free.

A green pea plant grows in a garden. Inside one pod, a small green pea decides that he is not going to be like all the other peas; he’s going to be different. But different in what way? When Little Pea jumps out of the pod, all he is sure about is that he does not want to look like all the other peas in the garden—each one exactly like all the others. His journey to define himself leads him to meet a beautiful peacock, a ferocious lion, and a noisy elephant. All of these exotic creatures impress Little Pea, and he wants to look like them.

When Little Pea returns to the garden, he has one peacock feather in his hair, stripes painted all over his body, and a trunk made out of a blade of grass on his nose. But instead of being impressed, all of the other peas laugh at him and tease him. Little Pea continues to wear his grand costume, and when the times comes, he burrows into the earth and plants himself just as every other seed does. Then the new pea plants grow, and harvest time arrives—and with it, a great surprise that shows the joy of difference.
