Description
For the first time, the Oracle of Nechung talks about his childhood in Tibet, daily life in the Nechung monastery, and his role as the medium of the State Oracle.
There were once many oracles in Tibet, men and women who acted as mediums between the divine and the physical worlds. Today only a few survive, the principal one being the Nechung Kuten. He is charged with foretelling the future and protecting and defending the Buddhist faith and the Dalai Lama. After his death, he is also consulted in the search for the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation. The present Nechung Kuten, Thupten Ngodup, was born in Tibet in 1957. After the Chinese invasion, he and his family fled the country and took refuge in India. In 1971, he became a novice monk at the Nechung Monastery in Dharamsala, where he was officially enthroned as the fourteenth State Oracle in 1988.
In Nechung, l’Oracle du Dalaî Lama, the venerable Nechung Kuten discusses his life as a young monk under the tutelage of benevolent masters; he describes the mysterious happenings that preceded his first trance and how it felt to be entered by the protector spirit. Through this book, he gives us the messages and predictions with which he was endowed by the spirit of Dorje Drak-den, the protector deity of the Dalai Lama.
