Rozier delicately paints the portrait of Sharon, an Orthodox widow whose only son has just died in a suicide bombing in Jerusalem. Her descent into the hell of loss and the ascent back to happiness are the tender subject of the novel. As in his previous novel, a taboo desire, in this case for a child outside of wedlock, is what stands between her and happiness. Sharon bravely travels to Oslo for artificial insemination, but as a single female Orthodox Jew of 42 years of age, time, her own religious faith, and the community itself, seem to be against her.
