Description
The simorgh is a mythical bird celebrated by the likes of Avicenna, Attar and Rumi. The simorgh is also a literary puzzle in which Mohammed Dib, hailed as one of Algeria’s greatest francophone novelists, cheerfully mingles fables, short stories, essays and diary entries while addressing such themes as language, the stranger, the desert, the power of dreams and the imagination. Beginning with one Middle Eastern myth, Simorgh ends with an entirely different one – that of an old man who, having suffered tragedy and exile, returns at last to the land of his ancestors.
