Description
Although some accounts exist of the Nazi treatment of homosexuals during World War II, none have yet delved in detail into the absurd legislations and political manipulations that were enacted early in the last century, and saw their most systematic application in the Nazi persecutions. Jean Le Bitoux draws on first-hand reports, survivors' testimonies, official documents, letters, newspaper articles and more, to shed light on the conditions under which the homosexuals of Europe became the victims of Nazi persecution. In an almost overnight reversal of fortune, the homosexuals of Europe -- from Berlin and the rest Germany, to France, and into the far reaches of Nazi occupied territories -- are denounced, rounded up, deported, tortured and in many cases killed. After the war, the story of this tragic episode in European history remains only partly told.
