Description
Written in the months following the birth of her first child, Marie Darrieussecq’s latest novel asks: what is a baby? Why are there so few babies in literature? What are we to make of the discourse that surrounds them? What is motherhood? And why do women give birth rather than men? A subject long neglected in literature, this unconventional and provocative work examines these issues, reconsidering Simone de Beauvoir’s dictate that "one cannot be an intellectual and be a good mother."
