Description
Twenty-seven-years-old Solange leads a dull and boring existence. Melancholy and apathy rule her world. When she receives an anonymous envelope in the mail of one of her class pictures from grade school, she is convinced the person who sent it is the same as the one who has been calling her answering machine without leaving messages. Determined to find out who is behind the disturbing events, she decides to investigate and, after many attempts, finally manages to retrace the calls to a phone booth. Solange invents a two-week sailing trip in order to get time off from work. Instead, armed with a camera, several rolls of film and a notebook, she takes up shop at the bar in front of the phone booth, writing down the time of the calls on the pictures. Comparing her notes with the time of the messages left on her answering machine, she soon discovers the culprit is an old woman. Solange interrogates her and finds out that the woman is convinced Solange is in fact her younger self. She explains to Solange what her life will be if she doesn’t change it right away. In Les cendres de mon avenir, Eric Faye recounts the gripping and surreal story of a woman’s investigation into her own future.
