At the end of the 19th century in Lyons, the famous French criminologist Alexandre Lacassagne embarked on the challenging task of assembling archives of deviant behavior, thus constituting a living encyclopedia of crime based on autobiographical accounts from inmates of Saint Paul’s prison.
