Valerie Tong Cuong was raised in the housing projects of Paris. She is the author of four previous novels including Big (Nil, 1997), Gabriel (Nil, 1999), Ou je suis? (Grasset, 2001; French film rights optioned) and Ferdinand et les Iconoclastes (Grasset, 2003; US film rights optioned). She is a singer in the band Quark.
