Born in 1951 in Tunisia, Mohamed-Chérif Ferjani is professor at the University of Lyon-2. A former political prisoner in Tunisia (from 1975 to 1980), he is founding member of the Tunisian section of Amnesty International. He is the author of Les Voies de l'islam, approche laïque des faits islamiques (CRDP de Franche- Comté / Ed. du Cerf, 1996) and Islamisme, laïcité et droits de l'homme (L'Harmattan, 1992).
