Hélène Carrère d'Encausse

Hélène Carrère d’Encausse has been the permanent secretary of the Académie Française since 1990, and is one of France’s most eminent specialists in Russian history. She is the author of numerous books, several of which have been translated and published in the United States and the United Kingdom, including Nicholas II and The End of the Soviet Empire (Holmes & Meier Publishers, 2000), Lenin (Holmes & Meier Publishers, 2001), and Islam and the Russian Empire: Reform and Revolution in Central Asia (I.B. Tauris, 2009).
